About TUS
Looking to learn a bit about what The UnderSquare is, the goals behind it, and our mission? You've come to the right place! TUS is a large community of devoted staff, members, and everyone who wants to stay around and enjoy our community.
The UnderSquare originally began as the Rockman EXE UnderSquare (which is where our original domain, exe-undersq, came from), and was a much humbler community than it is today. It began with an idea of H0tSh0tZ's as he was working over at EXE Headquarters. He had grown tired of the situation there, and decided to create a site with a vision of it becoming the best Rockman website on the internet--one where users drove the content, and the users were not driven by it.
But a site cannot exist without a group to run it. Drk-X and several members at GameFAQs were asked if they'd like to join, and the initial staff was built. Shortly thereafter, TUS began to take form, with Drk working to make the site, and Shotz working to recruit the best staff and build a great content base to get started. With some veterans of the EXE games recruited and others as well (and much hard work), the Rockman EXE UnderSquare officially opened on October 17th, 2005.
We began as a small, private community, but with the vast expanse of EXE resources available, as well as the expertise of the community, TUS began to blossom. With the release of Rockman EXE 6, TUS was the only site on the internet to offer a walkthrough for the game, and a huge influx of activity occured; we had over 1,000 new members in two months alone. The site was looking up.
Unfortunately, parts of 2006 caused rough times for TUS. A bit of typical eDrama occured with power struggles, but in the end of it, TUS was still TUS, regardless of how the staff roster or site infrastructure changed. An internet hacker calling himself "Lenny" also broke in at one point, but among the staff changes came in a programmer than helped the site recover. News continued to be covered with great detail by our correspondents, and the community continued to grow.
As the end of 2006 approached, the first Shooting Star Rockman game released, and as occured with Rockman EXE 6's release, the community once again surged. Yet again, TUS was the only site to offer a guide in English for the game at release date, and people flocked to us for this resource. Even today, we continue to get new members due to the wealth of knowledge held here.
2007 has been a good year with more upgrades to the site and its features, improvements across the board, and the rebranding. On November 16th, TUS officially rebranded itself (though, ironically, the acronym we use had been this all the time) to "The UnderSquare," and came out with a new resource for information, the Wiki, for resources on most Rockman games and multimedia.
Things continue to grow, so why not take a look around and see if you enjoy our offerings. Thanks for reading!
