Shooting Star Rockman

Shooting Star Rockman is the seventh in the franchise, and debuted on December 14th of 2006 on the Nintendo DS handheld system. Shooting Star Rockman is one of the spinoffs of the now long-running video game series, and currently consists of two games.

The series takes place two-hundred years after the EXE series, in the year 220X, where technology has evolved past the use of the internet and into the use of radio waves. Additionally, a Radio Wave World exists within the atmosphere of Earth; powered by three satellites (Pegasus, Leo, and Dragon), the Radio Wave World is normally invisible to the human eye. To keep up with this development, the Transer was created, to replace the use of a PET; these Transers are worn on the wrists and can scan Battle Cards to attack the Radio Wave viruses that threaten both worlds.

The series features the adventures of a fifth grade student named Hoshikawa Subaru and his partner, Omega-Xis, who is an FM-ian - an extraterrestrial from the FM Planet, who possess the ability to merge with human beings through a Radio Wave Conversion. This transformation allows humans and FM-ians to combine, granting them the ability to operate in the Radio Wave World. As Subaru continues on his adventure, he and Omega-Xis will encounter many other human and FM-ian partners like themselves.

Subaru begins the story in the middle of a depression, over his father, Kelvin, who was lost in a space mission. As a result, Geo doesn't attend school anymore; however, he soon meets Omega-Xis, a refugee from the FM Planet who claims to know what happened to Kelvin. The two soon merge to become the series protagonist, Rockman, but because of Omega-Xis's fugitive status, Subaru has to keep his identity as Rockman a secret.

The game is presented in scenarios, similarly to the EXE series. Throughout the course of the game, Geo and Omega-Xis will encounter enemy FM-ians decended onto earth, who target humans with conflicted lives, promising them power to turn things around; however, these fusions are typically involuntary, causing the humans involved to lose control of this body. Mega Man is thus faced with the task of defeating them to restore their human forms. Further along the game, Mega Man will obtain the ability to utilize the three Radio Wave satellites, transforming into Pegasus, Leo, or Dragon forms.

In the second game of the series, Mega Man is confronted by mysterious beings seeking the secrets to the island of Mu. Using mysterious artifacts known as ooparts, Mega Man gains the power of the ancient Mu tribes - Shinobi, Berserker, and Dinosaur. Eventually, multiple ooparts can be used to stack tribe transformations together; when all three are combined, the all-powerful Tribe King is formed!

Shooting Star Rockman has some similarities to the Rockman EXE series, but is considered a separate entity none the less. To be simple, Shooting Star Rockman works with the same kind of battle system, and general gameplay as the Rockman EXE games, but battles take place on a psuedo-3D plane instead of the 2D plane, and the game sports improved visuals and a refined engine.
