Rockman DASH
The Rockman DASH series is the third in the franchise, and debuted December 18th, 1990 on the PlayStation. Rockman X is one of the spinoffs of the now long-running video game series, and is most recently available on the PlayStation Portable, though the original versions are near identical. Only three games exist in this series, currently.
The player plays the two DASH games as Rock Volnutt, a teenage digger who searches underground ruins. primarily for Quantum Refractors, as they are the civilization's primary source of energy. Raised by Roll and Barrel Caskett, he was found in the Nino Ruins as a child. The gameplay is a detraction from the old platformers of past, being the first series in the franchise to expand into a 3D shooter. While this was first looked at with scorn, the system works smoothly in its use and execution.
At current, no sequel to Rockman DASH 2 has been announced, though fans have been asking for one, and Keiji Inafune seems to want to create one. At TGS2007, he is quoted as saying "I've been trying to create Mega Man Legends 3 for a long time now, but I haven't been able to make it a reality yet. I'm making it my dream to create Mega Man Legends 3 before either I die or leave my company," which lends some hope, however faint, to there being a sequel at some point.
